Haven't mailed this yet, sent a mail requesting phone time. (sweethang@burningman.com) ---- Hi Sweethang. I was directed to you by Bettie June regarding BRC theme camp placement. I previously ran Ultra Stunt Danger Academy (2006,2007) and am the creator of Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots (2003,2004,2006): http://UltraStuntDangerAcademy.com/ http://UltraStuntDangerAcademy.com/Projects/RockEm-SockEm-Robots/ Last year was a bit on the difficult side for me for a number of reasons, including a difficult theme camp placement. So, I was hoping to avoid that this year, if you decided to bring Rock'Em Sock'Em Robots back. I understand that theme camp placement is not being decided for some time, but I wanted to make something clear about my theme camp placement that seems to have been looked over in my applications past. This year I plan on bringing a much smaller crew, probably about 10 people. I'm not interested in attempting to run a large town again, I just want to be able to run the robots on the playa, if possible. The requirement for the robots to work is this: 1) The camp needs to be on the Esplanade, the robots are on the other side of the Esplanade on the playa (as they are powered by my bus generator, and they need to return to the camp for repairs and repainting every night. Our space can be small, perhaps even somewhat narrow, as long as I can fit my 40'x10' bus in it without cutting it in half. I'd rather not cut my bus. :) Something like 60x40 would probably work fine. Last year they initially wanted to put me into a space that would not fit my bus, I'd rather not go through that again. 2) We cannot be next to any large noise installations, such as a bandstand, unless they are quiet during the robot combat (dark:30 till about 10pm). That's pretty much it. Last year none of these requirements worked out, and it was very frustrating on my end. I do understand that Esplanade space is generally reserved for theme camps with 24 hours of interactivity. We do not have that to offer. I hope I can make it abunduntly clear that I would be comfortable with receiving a rejection to our theme camp application. I would also be comfortable with receiving acceptance. What I definitely want to avoid is what happened last year, where we received partial acceptance, and then more and more fell through the cracks until it became too difficult for me to run the robots. So, if we can get a slice of the Esplanade, I'll bring the robots and run them. If we don't get any space at all, I have no problem just setting up in the free camping area. I do *not* want to end up receiving theme camp space on a side or back street, unless you are just feeling generous and have no expectations for the robots to run.
